   If you’ve never experienced a well-made wooden jigsaw puzzle, you might be wondering why people would spend so much money on them. The answer is that it’s an experience completely unlike any ordinary cardboard jigsaw puzzle. It fiercely resists every form of methodical approach you might try with an ordinary puzzle, such as finding the edge pieces first, sorting by color, or sorting by shape. Instead, it invites you to just sit with it, let your eyes rove, enjoy the beauty and intricacy of each piece, and enter a sort of meditative state. Trying to actively search for a specific piece nearly always proves fruitless – it simply reveals itself when your eyes are ready to see it.

   This thing is a work of art on every level. Even the box it comes in is a delight. And one of the first surprising things you may notice when you spread the pieces out is that it’s an olfactory delight as well as being both visual and tactile. Fresh out of the box, the smell of it is like sitting by a campfire… without the smoke. There are many more surprises in store.

   Another reviewer mentioned that after assembling it, he took it apart and did it again upside down to enjoy the world of scenery on the back sides of the pieces. Now I know I’ll have to try it myself.
